Can you do it yourself?

An easy DIY on most cars; disconnect the negative terminal first and watch for memory-reset or registration needs on newer models.

Common questions

How long does a car battery last?

Most car batteries last 3 to 5 years. Heat, short trips and lots of electronics shorten that, so a battery that is 4 years old is worth testing before winter.

Can a bad alternator kill a new battery?

Yes. If the alternator isn't charging, a new battery will go flat too, so ask for a charging test.

Why does my car need an AGM battery?

Cars with start-stop or lots of electronics are built for AGM batteries, which cost more but handle repeated starts better.

How much does battery replacement cost?

A typical range across the US is $150 to $470. That is an estimate from parts prices, labor hours and the local labor rate, not a quote.
