Check a car for recalls
Enter a VIN, or pick the year, make and model. You see open safety recalls, what could happen and the free fix, plus what owners report to NHTSA.
Recall and complaint data comes from NHTSA, the US government's vehicle safety agency, and is cached for up to a day. Recall repairs at a dealer are free. A recall that is not listed may not apply to your car or may not be filed yet. Check nhtsa.gov/recalls too.
Why check
A recall repair is free at a dealer, no matter how old the car is or who owns it. New recalls are added all the time, so a car that was clear last year may not be now. Used cars are the most likely to have a recall nobody fixed.
