The fuel pump sends gas from the tank to the engine. A weak one causes sputtering, stalling, hard starts, or a car that won't start.

Common questions

What are signs of a bad pump?

Common signs are a car that cranks but will not start, sputtering at highway speed, a loud whine from the tank, and loss of power going uphill.

Why is labor high?

On most cars the pump sits inside the gas tank. The shop must lower the tank or reach it through the back seat, and it is safest done with the tank low on fuel.

Can I run low on gas to keep it healthy?

Keeping the tank above a quarter helps cool the pump. Running it empty often shortens its life.

How much does fuel pump replacement cost?
