Can you do it yourself?

A moderate DIY on simple engines; torque the bolts in sequence and clean the surfaces well.

Common questions

Is a valve cover leak serious?

Usually not an emergency, but oil can drip onto hot parts and burn off with a smell. Keep an eye on the oil level and fix it before the leak gets worse.

Why does the price vary so much?

On some engines the cover is right on top and takes an hour. On others, the intake or other parts must come off first, which adds hours of labor.

Will fixing it stop my oil loss?

If the gasket is the source, yes. Oil can also come from other seals nearby, so ask the shop to clean the area and confirm where the oil is coming from.

How much does valve cover gasket replacement cost?

A typical range across the US is $170 to $660. That is an estimate from parts prices, labor hours and the local labor rate, not a quote.
